New subclasses 491, 494 and 191 to replace existing 489 and 187 in November 2019 and November 2022 respectively. The Migration Amendment (New Skilled Regional Visas) Regulations 2019 (the Regulations) amend the Migration Regulations 1994 (the Migration Regulations) to introduce three new visas to assist regional Australia (designated regional areas) and make related amendments. At the commencement of the new regional provisional visas, it is intended that the designated regional areas, to be identified in a legislative instrument, will include all of Australia except for Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

The BC Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP) Entrepreneur Immigration - Regional Pilot, was launched in mid-March and was piloted for 2 years. The communities must be less than 75,000 people and located more than 30 km from a larger city. The enrolled communities include Cariboo, Kootenay, Mainland/Southwest, Nechako, North Coast, Northeast, Thompson-Okanagan, Vancouver Island/Coast.

The UK Government has proposed fundamental changes to the Tier 1 visa category through a Statement of Changes released on 7 March 2019. The proposed changes are scheduled to take effect on March 29, 2019. Applications under the existing Tier 1 (Graduate Entrepreneur) route can be made until July 5, 2019.

The Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA) program provides an alternative to those who are not successfully immigrate to Australia through skilled visa at this stage. The DAMA program is currently open in Northern Territory with more than 100 occupations. The list of occupations in New South Wales has also been announced but it will restart until July. In the future, we believe DAMA will extend to other provinces in Australia too.
